Meet Our Doula Team
Many of our families come directly from your care providers and so we have developed a wonderful relationship with the many OBGYN and midwifery practices here in Charlotte. This allows our families to know that their team is familiar with each other and thus, the mood in the birth room and beyond is very much on Team YOU. We want you to have the best experience you can have before, during, and after your babies are born!
HELEN HERZIG, OWNER
CERTIFIED LABOR DOULA, PLACENTA ENCAPSULATOR, POSTPARTUM DOULA
NOVANT CREDENTIALED
My name is Helen and I am the original “Aussie Doula” and mum to over 600 birthing families. I am a mum to 5 children from middle school through adult and “Nub-Nub” to a beautiful grandson. My accidental path to becoming a doula presented itself when a close friend asked me to come to her birth. The spark that birth inspired became the beginnings of Aussie Doula as we know it today.
My reputation spread quickly and now I have an incredible hand-picked team of doulas helping me inspire families to have supported and positive births in our local Charlotte community. I am passionate about mothering the mothers and encouraging a sense of community and connection in an ever-changing community full of natives and transplants alike. Our monthly meetups are filled with friendship, connection, and education.
My role these days is to support my team and all the families under our care. My personal client load is minimal these days, but I do take a very select number of families.
CARLEY
CERTIFIED BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULA, AND PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION
NOVANT CREDENTIALED
My name is Carley, and I am delighted to call Charlotte my home since 2017 after relocating from England with my husband and two boys. I have fostered many children and adopted our beautiful teenage daughter after moving to Charlotte. I attended my first birth in 2003 and took training in the U.K. I took further training through DONA here in the U.S.
My belief is that if a woman feels she has choices and is in control of her body, she is more likely to feel relaxed and progress through labor, leading to a more positive and empowering birth experience. Birth does not always go as planned but having someone who fully supports your choices and holds no judgment is a powerful tool. I have worked with moms with high-risk pregnancies after my own daughter was born sleeping. When I’m not attending births I can be found enjoying nature with my family.
DEBBIE
CERTIFIED BIRTH DOULA
My name is Debbie, and I am a mother to 5 adult children and grandma to an ever-increasing number of grandkids. I have always been about everything family and child and have been blessed to experience that incredible joy in my own life. When I was having my own babies, I wasn't aware there was such a thing as a doula. Oh, how I would have benefited from having one! As soon as I found out what a doula was, I knew I had found my life-long calling. I absolutely love being a doula and supporting families in their birth journey, and my families tell me it shows. I am by nature nurturing and compassionate, and the work of a doula allows that to shine. Every birth is unique and special. I love seeing our families gain confidence and go from being fearful, timid, nervous, confused, or overwhelmed to confident, informed, strong, and ready to advocate for themselves and rock their birth. It is my great honor to be welcomed into that sacred place of expectant families as they prepare for, welcome their precious babies earth side, and adjust to life with a newborn.
RAQUEL
BIRTH DOULA, REFLEXOLOGIST, REIKI PRACTITIONER, YOGA TEACHER

My name is Raquel, and I am a mother of 2 kids & grandmother of 2. I am a very caring and compassionate person and a perfect fit for the Aussie Doula team. For years I have been a part of our team via referrals to my reflexology practice. Helen has sent many of our Aussie Doula families that have faced induction to see me, and I have been successful in allowing many of them to go into labor on their own with the help of my healing and skilled hands. I am passionate about VBAC births and have guided many expectant families to succeed in meeting their babies.

BROOKE H
BIRTH DOULA, BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHER, EXERCISE SPECIALIST
NOVANT CREDENTIALED
My name is Brooke and I'm a wife & mother of two. I'm an Ohio native but have called North Carolina home since high school. During the birth of my first child in 2016 things didn't quite go according to plan. I realized a lot of families aren't able to reflect positively on their birthing experience, and this burdened my heart to become a birth doula. I believe every family deserves to be seen, heard, and supported, no matter their birth preferences.
I studied Exercise Science in college, where I learned the amazing things, our bodies are capable of. I've worked as an exercise physiologist in cardiac rehab, and a wellness coach in a hospital setting. I've worked specifically with women with high blood pressure and diabetes. I was also in full-time ministry. I have learned to meet people where they're at, to comfort and hold space for them. These experiences brought me to a new understanding of wholeness - body, mind, and spirit.
SUZI
BIRTH DOULA
NOVANT CREDENTIALED
My name is Suzi, and I love births and babies! My top goals as a doula are to help couples manage their expectations so they make informed decisions to ensure that they have no regrets throughout the birthing process. I was certified as a doula in 1996 while pregnant with my fourth child. I worked full-time for the next nine years assisting hundreds of families to deliver their babies. A cross-country move from Scottsdale, AZ brought our family to NC with four teenagers, so the on-call life took a back seat. Now as a Gigi to six beautiful grandchildren, I would love to assist you in this amazing birth journey.
DONNA
Birth and Postpartum Doula
NOVANT CREDENTIALED
I’m Donna, mom of six wonderful people ages 16-29 and grandma to two special sweeties. My husband of 32 years and I moved to the Charlotte area from my home state of Maine in 2016, following our oldest daughter who had married a local. My children were all born at home, and we have been very blessed to homeschool all our kids (just two left to go). I am a CNA with years of baby experience as well as a Birth and Postpartum certified Doula. My passion is helping families with their little ones as I strive to lovingly teach parents to learn from their babies. I am my children’s biggest cheerleader and will be yours also, as I with no judgment or bias lead you to make decisions that are the very best for you and your baby. My husband is of Greek descent and in Greek doula means a woman who serves. I look forward to serving your family.
RACHEL
BIRTH DOULA, NOVANT CREDENTIALED
My name is Rachel, and I am a mama to two crazy kiddos and one dog. I'm originally from Delaware but have called North Carolina home since attending Elon University, and my high school sweetheart husband and I have called Charlotte "home" since 2013.
I have been immersed in the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum world since 2017 and had two amazing doula-attended births of my own. I've seen firsthand what it's like to have long and difficult labors, challenging physical and/or emotional recoveries in the postpartum period, and just about every breastfeeding struggle in the book. It is my hope that the skills I've learned in finding good help and working to identify solutions that aid both Mama AND Baby in equal measure can help other families.
If I'm not chasing after my children or cleaning up their messes, you can find me traveling, reading, DIYing, cross-stitching, or watching really bad or really good TV (there is no in-between in my life). My family and I are based in south Charlotte, but I serve within a one-hour radius of my home. I hope we will have the opportunity to meet soon!
KENYETTA
CERTIFIED birth DOULA, PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION SPECIALIST, CHILDBIRTH EDUCATOR & MIDWIFE ASSISTANT

I have been in Charlotte since 2015, and I have family in Rockingham and Fayetteville. I have wanted to work with pregnant women and children since I was a teenager. I went to school and obtained my degrees in Child and Family Studies and Psychology. Life took me another route with children and families. I worked in Group Homes, providing Community Support and Intensive Care services. I have also been a daycare teacher and a substitute teacher. In my free time, I like to attend comedy and poetry shows, or just relax in the corner of my sectional and watch television all day. I believe every expecting family and mom-to-be deserves to have a beautiful birthing experience. I believe that building your support team is a part of that process, as those you choose to share this moment in life with are vital!

CATHERINE
BIRTH DOULA & POSTPARTUM DOULA
Hello everyone! I’m Catherine, but my friends call me Cat! I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and graduated with a psychology major and a Spanish minor. Throughout school, I gained a deep love for prenatal development as well as the infant’s first year of life outside the womb. As the oldest of three girls, my love for babies emerged when my youngest sister was brought home from the hospital, and it has grown ever since. My husband says he always knows where to find me in a room full of people – either holding a baby or talking to an expectant mother. Prior to becoming a doula I worked as a nanny and this experience has sparked in me even more passion for walking with mothers during the postpartum period. I am certified as both a Labor Doula and a Postpartum Doula through ProDoula and have a distinct passion for postpartum work. I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to accompany many more mothers and babies into the days and weeks that follow birth. I hope to meet you soon!

STACIE
Birth & Postpartum Doula
My name is Stacie. I have lived and traveled overseas with my husband and four children, working as a humanitarian volunteer and teacher. In 2013 moved to Charlotte, and we have been happy to call it home ever since. Throughout my life, I have enjoyed connecting with women from diverse backgrounds, countries, and cultures, bonding over our shared experiences of pregnancy, birth stories, motherhood, and womanhood. I believe in the power of sister-friends and know that we are stronger together when we uplift and support one another. Giving, holding, and speaking life brings me immense joy. If there is a baby nearby, my arms are usually full. I have birthed my four children in a hospital setting, two with a midwife, and two with my OB/GYN. Throughout my life, I have mentored many women through various stages of womanhood, including pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, parenting, child development, love, and loss. When I'm not working with mothers and babies, I am educating high school students as an English teacher. My vision for my role as a birth and postpartum doula is captured by the words of poet Emily Dickinson: “If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain.” I look forward to sharing in your birth adventure. May my hands and heart bring ease and comfort to you and yours
SHELBY
BIRTH & POSTPARTUM DOULA
Hi, I’m Shelby, a certified labor and postpartum doula in Charlotte, NC. I thrive when I am helping others learn and grow, and I especially enjoy partnering with families as they transition to a new part of their family story. When I am not working as a doula, I am hanging out with my two boys and husband or enjoying a nice day outside with a book.
Every birth is a new chapter in a family’s story and can set the tone for the postpartum period. There is no guarantee for the details of any of our births, but we can cultivate birthing teams that understand and support our birthing goals. As a labor doula, it’s a privilege to listen to the desires and fears of my clients and bring my knowledge and experience alongside their unique story. It’s my hope to bring calm and care to each birthing experience and to help each birthing person feel seen and empowered in their experience.
Parenthood is one of life’s biggest transitions, and often the support we receive can make the difference. In both of my transitions into motherhood, I found the support of my friends and family to be essential to how I navigated breastfeeding, the fourth trimester, and loneliness. A few weeks after the birth of my second son, we moved away from our supporting village, and I truly saw the value of the help we were now desperately without. After my experiences and struggles, I found a real passion for the successful transition of new families and partnered that passion with training that equipped me to care for them.

JULIE
BIRTH DOULA
Hi! My name is Julie! I have been married to my best friend for 27 years, have 5 kids (ages 13-25) who I have had the privilege to homeschool, and an amazing grandson who is my favorite person to read stories with. We have a small hobby farm in Union County and have called this area home since 2006. I am an avid reader and love to laugh with my family as often as I can.
I have always been immersed in the birth world but knew my calling was to be a doula 20 years ago, following the birth of my third child. This was the first birth that I had a doula and came away from that experience feeling like I could conquer the world. It gave me a passion for supporting families through their journey to growing their family and helping women to feel empowered, supported, and confident as they embark on motherhood. It is important to me to educate and inform, because if you do not know your options, others will decide for you. As a birth doula, it is a privilege to walk alongside you, understanding your desires and goals, as well as your concerns for your birth. I strive to bring calm and confidence to the birthing family. I look forward to walking with you through your journey.
ERIN
POSTPARTUM DOULA
I began as an enthusiastic, committed, and caring nanny, which quickly evolved into over two decades of experience. I've worked with a diverse array of families, meeting a variety of needs, usually starting when infants' mothers returned to work and continuing until the children began kindergarten. My growing experience with mothers and children led me to witness several births, an extraordinary event that sparked my desire to learn more. This insight guided me into Postpartum care, recognizing the significant need for support among new mothers. Being a new mom comes with its challenges, and I find joy in empowering them to feel secure, well-cared-for, and confident in their new journey. The most rewarding aspect for me is watching women discover their strength and foster self-assurance. I hold the belief that women are incredibly strong; thus, when a woman receives support, it sets the stage for the family's harmony and prosperity. Beyond my love for cooking, I take pleasure in feeding and nourishing others, and as a mother of two boys, I understand the difficulty of preparing healthy meals while caring for a newborn.

I live outside of Charlotte with my partner, son, and our hodgepodge of pets. I love spending time at home with my son in our garden. I love classic rock, listening to audiobooks, and solving mysteries as an armchair detective when I listen to true crime podcasts.

KIMBERLY
Postpartum Doula, Birth Doula, Certified Lactation Educator
Hello! I’m Kimberly. I am a postpartum doula, birth doula, certified lactation educator and a nanny. I am also a proud mother of two teenagers and two adorable fur babies. Children have always been my life, from baby-sitting as a teenager to having my own in-home daycare, substitute teaching and now as a Postpartum Doula.
I have been working as a Postpartum Doula since 2015. My passion for this work comes from having children of my own. Having children is a beautiful but often challenging thing. I want to help other families know that they don’t have to do it alone. I primarily help families at night to allow the family to get much needed rest. Sleep in the early weeks of the postpartum period is essential to the health and well-being of all in the family.
Besides spending time with my family and pets, I also enjoy cooking, swimming, hiking, and daily walks with my husband and dog, Winston.

I serve as a Certified Lactation Consultant, a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, and a Student Midwife following the apprenticeship model of the Southern Folk

We are unschoolers and self-directed learners who love spending our time connecting to the land and people in North Carolina.
I have served over 100 families (and counting) through attending both home and hospital births as well as supporting the transition into parenthood through traditional postpartum care practices, parent coaching and childcare. I'm looking forward to making meaningful connections through serving expanding families!
Jo Birth and postpartum doula
Birth/Postpartum doula, Childbirth Educator, Child Passenger Safety Technician
I’m from the Carolinas and have been happily nestled in Charlotte since 2020. In these past five years, I have cared for dozens of families with a practice of heart centered, evidence based, trauma informed care. While I do not have children of my own, I have been caring for the children and families in my community since I was 5 years old, when my first niece was born. I have been by that same niece's side while she had her babies, 20 years later! I continue learning and listening to my community to provide the warmest, most respectful care possible.
I am a certified birth, postpartum doula. My goals through care are to create safe spaces to navigate your experiences while feeling informed, confident, and tender. I have trained with various entities like DONA, ProDoula, BADT, ICEA, and I continue to learn and grow as the needs of the perinatal community shift and grow.
Aside from all things perinatal care, I love to spend my time camping with my partner and our pups, traveling to national parks and forests, going to concerts, reading a good book and simply connecting with other beings! I am so excited to hear and honor what you need on your next journey.
My name is Liz, and I’m a postpartum doula with nine years of experience helping families navigate the early days and weeks with their newborns. As a Charlotte, North Carolina native, I’m passionate about supporting parents in my community as they adjust to life with a baby (or babies!) Through my years of both professional and personal experience and education, I’ve developed expertise in infant feeding, including breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and pumping. I also specialize in providing compassionate care to families experiencing postpartum mood disorders, ensuring they feel supported and understood during this transformative time. My goal is to empower parents with the knowledge, resources, and confidence they need to thrive.
I’ve been married to my husband Kyle for five years and together we have 2 children. Parenting is a wonderful AND challenging journey, and I’m here to walk alongside families, offering practical support and emotional reassurance every step of the way. Whether helping establish feeding routines, addressing sleep concerns, or simply being a calming presence, I’m committed to making the postpartum period a positive and supported experience. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, or snuggling up with a good book, a cup of coffee, and our cat Henry for an evening of cozy reading!
Nia Postpartum Doula
I’m Nia, originally from Ohio I have been in Charlotte for almost 2 years.
In 2023 I went through earth mama naturals doula course, but have always had a love for babies since young. Watching the birth and delivery channel was intriguing to me. Babysitting turned into my desire to assist Mom’s and welcoming their new baby. Honing in on both assisting with their prenatal journey and postpartum care.I look forward to being a helping hand, listening ear and a safe space for Mothers and their families.
